My mother's cousin has a laptop running either Win 7 or 8 (can't remember which). For some reason a computer tech that she hired changed Windows Update that the drop down menu under "Important Updates" is completely grayed out. I'm talking about the drop down box that has options like "Install updates automatically" or "Download updates but let me choose when to install", "Do not check for updates at all". I don't know why this setting was changed, but she needs to check for important security related updates, but she's unable to change the setting from "do not check for updates". I can't imagine why anyone would consciously choose to completely disable update, but it's been done.
Can someone tell me how to reactivate the option box for updates so I can at least set it to check for updates (even if she choose not to install them)?
