Odd Gpu Usage

I recently got a nice new R9 380 gpu but.i have been noticing some odd behaviour. I think it's an AMD thing as my old R7 360 did the same but while gaming it never uses the full power of the gpu and as a result the core clock speed never reaches max, I do have clockblocker to lock the clock speeds but it doesn't change the gpu usage. Is this just an AMD thing that can't be helped?

Also I already know my A8 7650K is bottlenecking my gpu but it's had me curious since I decided to try out amd cards. If this is what they are like I may consider getting rid of it for an nvidia card afaik they don't do this

If the CPU is bottlenecking the GPU the of course the GPU isn't going to run at max. The CPU is holding it back. Try overclocking the CPU or upgrade it. I've always had Nvidia cards. When I used to have an I3, it would slow down any decent cards I had. When I upgraded the CPU, all those problems went away.

I've already found a cpu replacement that's on the same socket as my current one and not a crappy APU so I will try that next. Overclocking didn't help at all.

Sounds good.

I notice in just about all my games, apart from a few, gpu usage sits at 50% quite often under. Surely that's not all from cpu bottleneck?? Should it really be that low? One game in particular gpu usage was at 30-45% and cpu usage was also 40-60% so I thought that was odd

Are you running out of system memory or video memory? That's also a potential bottleneck. Also what's the framerate like?

I have 8gb of ram currently and never usually had problems running out, also never had it go close to using all vram. Framerates are nowhere near what they should be for this card but alot of it is probably from the cpu, although a review of my current cpu showed them test it with a 980ti and it pulled put alot better fps than I can get, could be silicon lottery I guess but I'm hoping g it's only cpu bottlenecking it. Otherwise I'm throwing this amd garbage in the bin and going Intel, will just take forever to save for cause Intel/nvidia prices are terrible

Are you hitting a frame cap?

Frame cap? No idea also forget what I said about review on my current cpu, looking back at it the numbers are about right for what I'm using, I think it's just my cpu being the bottleneck

Most likely.
