I recently got a new motherboard (Asus Crosshair V Formula-Z) to replace my old one which died to a liquid cooling failure. I am having difficulties getting the motherboard to post properly.

After a cleared CMOS the board will tell me to enter setup. With leaving everything default and resetting I get a Q-Code 5d. If I power the machine down and unplug the keyboard, it will then boot to a "Overclocking failed - Enter setup to restore BIOS".

I have tried running the memory at 800mhz, 1600mhz, 1866mhz and the XMP Profile at 2133mhz.
The motherboard came with BIOS version 2201 and I have since flashed it down to 2101 and then back to 2201 since nothing changed.

My components
Motherboard: Asus Crosshair V Formula-Z
CPU: AMD FX-8320
Memory: (4x4) G.Skill Ripjaws X DDR3 2133
Video Card: Asus GTX 760 DC2OC

Any help would greatly be appreciated. I have never encountered an error where unplugging the keyboard allowed me to reach BIOS at least.

First of all make sure your usb keyboard is connected to the back of the motherboards main I/O.

Connect it to the two usb ports bellow the Ps2 port in mixed colour of green and purple.
Like wise connect your usb mouse to the second usb port provided.

Turn the system on.
And enter the bios.
Enter the advanced bios mode menu settings option of the bios

Enable the option of detect usb legacy devices.
And for detection of hardware devices set the detection mode order to Legacy/ Uefi devices.

Make sure the sata chip set of the motherboard is enabled, setting the interface mode to Ahci mode.

And set the boot order and detection of both legacy drives, and Uefi drives.

Save all of the changes made in the bios before you exit it.
See if it passes the 5d error code.

You should be able to get to the bios without the 5d error code and the keyboard should respond when the set key is pressed to enter the bios.

I have the keyboard plugged into slot 1 and the mouse into slot 2. By default Legacy USB Support is enabled and I was unable to find a detection order setting. The sata chipset is enabled and set to AHCI though I do utilize the hardware raid functionality. The board is still getting stuck at 5d but I have noticed it is not just the keyboard that is causing the problem as I left the mouse plugged in by itself and it still hit 5d.
