Advice on a new build (web dev/generic) $800-$1000

Hey everyone,
I would like to build a new pc for web development, as well as to serve as generic media center (movies, games). I guess I need a decent ssd to run my local server on.
it's a completely new build, so I will need speakers and monitor as well. I would say a router with wifi too (not just to share, to connect to hotspots)
I will be buying components on amazon.ca I guess, but the price I mentioned is intended in usd

Thanks in advance

Nothing as demanding as CS:GO for sure
Casual stuff like a bunch of Sherlock Holmes games, maybe some rpgs, probably trying out GTA V (probably, but i guess it's not so demanding), maybe a couple of mmorpgs

Here's a part list which might be overkill for you but it's solid. It will max out games like GTA V, Skyrim, Battlefield and web development is definitely not a problem here. I've not calculated how much it'll cost but it's definitely under $1000 or even less.

CPU - AMD FX-8320E

MOBO - Gigabyte GA-970A-DS3P

GPU - EVGA GTX 970

RAM - Crucial Ballistix 8GB

SSD - Samsung 850 EVO 500GB

CASE - Vivo Mid Tower

PSU - Rosewill Hive-550

ODD - Samsung 24x SATA

MONITOR - AOC G2460PF 24″( 1920x1080)

SPEAKER - Cyber Acoustics Subwoofer Satellite System

OS - Windows 7 Professional SP1 64bit

I would suggest to buy a mouse and keyboard locally.

Thanks! Checking out prices on amazon. WHat about windows 10? Not stable yet? I will bring my ergonomic mouse/kb set I guess
I might add an extra $100 for a standard additional HDD as well, maybe a caviar black
I was also thinking of getting 16gb instead of only 8 of ram, I often run out of when I use both photoshop (nothing major) and the local server

The prices fluctuate by region. If it's going over your budget, let me know, I'll post a cheaper list. For Windows 10, I recommend getting Windows 10 Pro to be able gain control over Windows Updates but it costs ~$200, that's why I recommended Windows 7. If you don't mind Windows updating itself without you being able to stop as required, get the Home Edition at ~$100.

Just confirm these:

1. What is your budget in Canadian Dollar? If I take your budget as USD1000, it's around CDN$767.

2. If you want a better processor than the 8320 which is comparable to a core i5, you'll probably have to forsake the video card or get a lower one. At CDN$767, the 8320 isn't even an option here, so.

3. How much storage do you need? Storage is where you can save a lot of money. You can add a low storage SSD for now and add more later.

4. Should I include the OS in the price list?

5. I recommend getting a mouse and keyboard locally but I can find some cheap ones on Amazon if you wish.

1- Around 1200-1300, which is about 1k USD
2- consider 1300 in canadian dollars
3- 250gb of ssd should do actually, so I can get a 1TB HDD
4- No, I can move the win7 I have on another pc
5- Yeah well I can even use some I have

Thanks! Question: how does the FX 6300 compare to the 8320 or 8350?

The 8320 and 8350 are octa cores whereas the 6300 is hexa core. The 6300 is plenty enough for all your needs, no need to get better. The 6300 consumes much less power and in terms of price to performance, it's better. If YOU think you're gonna need octa core(i highly doubt so), you'll have to skip on the video card.

Hmmm I see, yeah it sounds logical. On what does the octa impact, exactly? I guess stuff like video/3d rendering times?
Sorry for the silly question, just trying to figure out what I can/can't do with both

Yep, for video rendering or photo editing stuff like that. Basically, the more intensive the rendering is, the more core you'll need it. Even though, 6 core is plentiful unless you're going for 4K video editing.

Okay, I see. I might pick this config then. I will have to wait a couple of weeks till I get there though, lol. Hopefully the offers will hold, but no problem if not.
I guess I can add a caviar blue 1tb HDD in the end

Great, thanks :) I will update the thread in case I need.
Since I have it open already, kind of a side question: for this, or another setup eventually, would I need a better GPU and CPU to make some small games with unreal engine 4 or unity?
