should i go for the z170-a or the z170-k for the above build , what difference would it make if any?

Solution
As far as overclocking goes, there is basically no difference between the two boards. The ASUS Z170-A does have an Intel NIC, so if you use ethernet networking, it will be better. The audio is technically better on the Z170-A as well, but I am one of the 99% of people that can't tell the difference between the two unless I hook them up to a receiver and crank it up.

The Z170-K does support slightly higher memory overclocking, though.

Personally I would always choose an ASUS Z170-A, Z170-AR, or Z170-WS depending on the use. The only real difference between the Z170-A and Z170-AR is that the AR does not have VGA or DVI ports built in (and I like that). The Z170-WS has a PCI-E multiplexer and 2 M.2 ports, but that does not justify the...

The Z170-WS has a PCI-E multiplexer and 2 M.2 ports, but that does not justify the extra cost for nearly anyone.

For your question, the Z170-A has a better NIC, better on-board audio, one USB 3.1 type A port, and one USB 3.1 type C port. The Z170-k is cheaper, can clock memory a little faster, and both of its USB 3.1 ports are type A (it does have a USB 3 type C port).

Good luck!
