Hello Community,

I just build a PC for my friend. Het has a i5 6500 with a Seidon 120 but it runs really hot.
Just to be sure of good cooling i used Prime95 to create insane load.
I myself run a 4690k OC with a Noctua DH-15 and dont seem to have any problem

Stock:
  • Idle 43C
    Load 98C
Seidon:
  • Idle 34C
    Load 95C
4690K + DH15:
  • Idle 30C
    Load 65C

I tried to reapply the thermalpaste but this isnt helping.

Solution
That's warm, but isn't going to cause any damage and probably won't effect the practical lifespan of the CPU. You could RMA it, or leave it alone.
You're right in that the 6500 should not get that hot under load. Assuming you've installed the heatsink(s) correctly, my guess is that there was a defect in how the IHS was attached. HOWEVER, I would not bother RMA'ing it if the CPU stays below maybe 80c during typical (non-Prime95) use.

Prime95 is not a good stress test for Haswell and later CPUs, because whenever AVX2 instructions are used (and they're used by practically nothing in typical home user workloads), Haswell and later CPUs greatly increase their voltage.

Oke, in a Overwatch Ultra 1080P it runs at 79C but when i turn up Super resolution it gets up to 87C

Fans run on low speed and dont seem to ramp up. I connected the pump to CPU_FAN1 because it wont work in any other slot. The 2 fans i connected to SYSFan because his mobo does not have 2 CPUFAN slots.
When i ran the seidon in my PC it ran same idle but the max was around 78 in prime95
