Ordered a 1080 for 1440p, but now I'm in doubt. Is the 1080 worth the big bang or should I wait for 1070 sli in the future?

Nvidia is kind of trying to phase out SLI in the near future and push people towards going single card because of all the issues SLI brings to the table. If anything, I would say wait for the 1080ti or whatever the higher end version ends up being. If you're just planning on 1440p though, you're not going to have any problems with the 1080.

i think youre gonna get mixed reviews on this one. i know alot of people dont trust/like SLI and will say alwasy go for the bigger card. and then theres the others that will say , no no sli is great!

i think you made the right choice tho. from what i see, the 1080 should be great for 1440

GTX1080 is 21% faster on average than a comparable GTX1070.

I'm still rocking a GTX680, and the GTX1080 is about 2.5X the performance though gets closer to 3X (with good CPU too) in some games.

I play several games at 2560x1440, maxed or near-max, 60FPS. Though most games are 1920x1080.

The GTX1070 is still a great card for 2560x1440, and the savings could be used elsewhere such as better monitor or whatever.

THOUGH DO NOT OVERPAY IF PRICES HIGH. MAY NEED TO WAIT SEVERAL WEEKS.

*Many people don't tweak games well. Doing so goes a LONG way to a better experience. Even with a GTX1080 you don't want to just crank Ultra settings and play with whatever frame rate that offers (unless you don't drop below your target frame rate).

You may want to drop AA or other settings a bit for demanding games, or use Adaptive VSYNC (which toggles VSYNC ON and OFF at the refresh rate/FPS target).

a 1070 should give you near max settings at a full 60fps
if not a 1080 will
