Hi All,

I have been given a gaming PC and it has been so long since I have been invloved in hardware that I have no idea where it stands.

The bottom line Is I want to buy at GTX 1080 and put it straight into this box (it will fit). Will my CPU or Motherboard bottle neck it? Is it worth doing?

Can you please give me advice on what I should do?

The box has in it:

Motherboard - M5A78L-M/USB3 (I believe this board is PCIe 2.0 16 x 1 as that what it reads on the board itself - https://www.asus.com/au/Motherboards/M5A78LMUSB3/gallery/
CPU - AMD FX-6300 - http://cpuboss.com/cpu/AMD-FX-6300
RAM - 16GB Giel RAM DDR3
Power Supply 500w Couger
Current GPU - AMD Radeon R7 370 ( I belive this card is PCIE 3.0)

Do I need to build from scratch to get this card and it be worth it? or can I just slot it in? or do I need to replace some things?

Thanks for all your help

A peculiar question IMO !! :-/

What would be your reason exactly for thinking of the 1080??
For anything less than a 1440p,tri-screen or vr setup or paired with a very fast intel for 1440p 144htz or 4k 60htz there is not a singular reason to buy one.

That mb/CPU combo is exactly what I have running with a 970.
Overclocked it'll pair fine with a 970 or the new 1060 or a RX 480 for 1080p gaming or a 1070 for 1440p.
Any more than that though definitely not.
you may be able to get more money if you part the pc. newer intel mb use ddr4 ram. on the old pc you could save the hard drive and cd rom and case if the case is a gaming case. older non gaming case the hard drive bracket causes loss of room for longerish gpus.

How about if I was to upgrade the CPU to a FX-8320 or 8350 and purchase a second hand FX-480 or a GTX 970.

And keep everything else the same (500w power supply, ram, mother board, box)

Would that work??
