So i am looking for a reliable wireless adaptor for my gaming PC since I cant directly connect it with a cable and I cant use powerline. I currently have a N300 router but I am hoping to soon upgrade to AC. My question is if I buy a AC wireless adaptor now, with it work with my N300 router. It says that all AC adaptors are backwards compatible but I just wanted to make sure.

Thank you

Solution
Yes an AC adapter will be backwards compatible with N.

If you are able to replace the router (so not living in a college dorm or place where you have no access/control of router), then why can you not use powerline networking adapters?

The wiring in is house house is that even though the router is just one wall wall away from my computer its wiring goes all the way into the basement and goes though the first edition electrical panel then the second one then all the way around my house to my computer. If I were to use a powerline it would have awful connection because of all the interference, microwave and other appliances that run on the same wiring. Just to much electrical interference

If it is only 1 wall away it would be a lot simplier then you think to run an Ethernet cable.
If your basement is unfinished (as in there is no drywall ceiling, you can see the wood joists for the first floor) then it would take nothing more then a drill, a drywall saw and $20 in materials to run a cable.
If basement is finished then you could always just get 2 wall plates with network jacks in them, and allow the cable to pass through the wall form one room to the other.
