Hello

I think I have a very weird problem which I tried solving for the past 3 days with no luck.
I have spent a lot of time on this forum and google searching for the solution but none work.

My problem

I have bought a new stick of ddr3 4gb ram to upgrade my pc to 8gb
the problem is the new ram never works even when I try it alone without combining it with the old 4gb ram..

every slot I put the ram in to gives me another error
for example I place it in the blue color, the pc infinite loop reboots. I put ut in the black slot, the pc just freezes on the mobo screen pick. I then place it in the 2nd blue or black slot and it gives me the blue screen with many errors which 1 of them is irql not less or equal.
tried to run memtest86 but it freezes and doesn't go beyond 1 second

Note: ram works on another pc just to make sure its a working ram and not a faulty one

Things I have tried
updating bios
changing the freq 800 1066 1333
changing voltage 1.35 1.5 1.6
removed gpu and used the mobo gpu
changed hdd sata ports
removed mobo battery
removed cmos jumper
switched ram around all 4 slots and mixed around with other ram
enabled disabled things in bios
formated windows and made a fresh install

so no matter what I try it just doesn't want to boot.. its either blue screen, freez or infinite boot loop

the ram is also the same model as the old 1

Ram: mushkin model 991995 pc3-12800 9-9-9-24 1.5v 4gb ddr3
Mobo: Asus p7h55-m pro
windows 7 64bit

so what is the problem here?
the ram is not faulty but it just doesn't want to work on my pc no matter what I do while the old memory works fine without any problems
I really hope someone can help me here because this issue is driving me insane

Solution

Yes I know, you explained that Alfred.
Return the newly purchased Dimm and state they failed MemTest86 in all slots, Keep the old ones as spares and get a single kit of 8GB (2x4).
Hi Alfred1234 :)

The Asus p7h55-m pro has a QVL list for both Lynnfield CPU and Clarkdale.

1. Never mix DIMMs, even of the same spec.
2. I could not find your DIMMs listed on either QVL lists, so they may or may not work and have not been tested with your MB.
Closest I could find were on the Lynnfield QVL and listed as 998659(XMP) 6GB(3 x 2GB) 9-9-9-24 @ 1.5-1.6V

Recommend you return the DIMMs you bought and get a Kit that has been tested.

Hi MeanMachine41

how can the old ram work though?
its the same ram model
the old works but the new one doesn't work
when I plug the old ram it works but when I remove it and place the new 1 I bought which is the same model it doesn't work

You tested the DIMMs with MemTest86+ and they failed as I understand.? Even new DIMMs sometimes fail.
If your old ones test OK in all slots then the new kit is suspect and when mixed will crash your system.

the old one works fine with memtest without any issue and works on all 4 slots
the new 1 doesn't work with memtest and gives different erros with each slot
both are same stick models same company same freq same voltage

but the shop wil tell me the ram is fine and has no issues
as stated before it worked perfectly on another pc
and ddr3 rams cost more for some reason ~_~... the same ram I bought 3 years ago costed me only 30$ and now its 40$

I want to try to solve this without buying new sticks or atleast know what is the reason for it not to work
I forgot to tell you or mention this
I once with a random match and random bios setting was able to boot in to windows but then it showed 8gb and only 4gb usable... that's the closest I could of gotten to make it work.. changed a few setting again and slots and it never worked again

Both are Blacklines? If so I'm suprised that either work. You may have an early one that was made with low density memory ICs, since about 2011, all DRAM (DDR3) has been made with high density ICs (chips) which basically aren't compatible with the older mobos. I'd look for the GSkill NT series of value DRAM which is still available and was made with the low density ICs

You have to make sure that both of the ram sticks have the EXACT same version, series, and voltage. If one has 1.66 Volts and the other one has 1.99 Volts then the ram sticks won't work, because that will mean they're incompatible. You need to have everything the same.

Forgetting the 1.66 and 1.99 mentuioned (???????) - even if specs are same there is no guarantees they will play unless they came in a single package (which will indicate they were tested together by the manufacturer and thus guaranteed)

Meanmachines solution was the best
return it and get refund :)
the guys at the shop tried to make it work with my pc and they couldnt so they had to refund me since they said it would work

@tradesman you might be correct
the old one is just mushkin and the new 1 is blackline or blackfrost? not sure i retunred it now
but still blackline alone didnt work.. its 4gb ddr3 which should be supported by my mobo

@steadyy both are the same model and freq and volts, its printed on a white paper attached to the stick, except the second 1 only had a different heatsink company but same mushkin stick
and like i said the new one never worked so even if one was 1.6 and one was 1.9.. doesnt explain why only putting 1 in wouldnt make it work

thanks for the reply guys i decided to return it and get refunded

No it isn't supported all DDR3 is not the same - original DDR3 was made with low density memory ICs (chips). Back in late 2010/2011 the move came to make DDR3 with high density memory IC which simple aren't compatible with older mobos like the socket 775, 1366 and 1156 - your mobo is an 1156. You will run into the same problem with other newer models of DRAM - that's why I suggested the NT series from GSkill, it's a line of DRAM that predates the release of your mobo
