Hello all,

First time asking for help on a forum. Bought a pre-built pc from newegg about 4 years ago. Mobo and processor died out(prob since i overclocked them) but thats not my problem. I now built a new computer with a new processor, motherboard, ram, and a liquid cooling system. I had kept my hard drive, power supply, and graphics card from my previous computer and used them for my new build.

My first build had windows 7 on it. I like windows 7 and for my new build i installed it right away. I had to format my hard drive because of the mobo change so when i was installing windows 7 this time it either got stuck right at the end, or got stuck somewhere else. I thought this was maybe the disk being dirty, etc. I installed windows 7 3 times and each time right after it booted it froze. First 2 times was with my cd, 3rd time i tried usb.

Now i had given up with windows 7 and tried installing windows 10. Windows 10 installed correctly but god help me my comp is freezing right after boot again. At Least with windows 10 i have a little time to open task manager and get a good idea of whats going on. Task manager indicated disk usage at 100%.??? I was very surprised to see this and after some research tried some methods to fix the problem. I can only imagine its the same problem i had on windows 7. So i disabled "Show me tips about windows", changed my advanced system settings for how many mb the hard drive is using(or something like that) and finally i just ran a full chkdsk. After 2 hours it said no error...

TO SIMPLIFY: My hard drive is running at 100% according to my task manager. I installed water cooling and have been checking my temps in bios and temps are fine so its not over heating. Ive tried windows 7 and right at boot my comp freezes. Ive tried windows 10 and like 2 min after boot my comp freezes. When in task manager my disk% says 100%. I have no idea how 100% of the disk is being used i dont understand that. My guess is my hard drive is trashed and i need a new one. Very unfortunate i just bought all new parts and now i need yet another one X.X. Please let me know what you guys think. Sorry for the super long explanation i didnt want to leave anything out. Thank you very much in advance.

I would suggest running a Linux live session and see how it goes. Try the Live DVD of either Ubuntu, Kubuntu or Mint (or USB). If you want to test the hard drive, you will have to install on it. That would wipe your Windows against but that won't be so bad I think. I mean if your system will run as Linux then obviously there are no real typical hardware failures. If you have any spare harddrive, test that.
