Hi!

I have a big problem with my old laptop, which I sometimes still use for watching videos etc. It is a Vaio Z, VPCZ12C5E, with an i7 CPU. After I didn't use it for around half a year because I got a new laptop, it started go up to maximum fan activity as soon as I booted. Of course I checked CPU usage, and while it is a bit high in idle mode (around 25%, mostly because of svchost.exe) the CPU temperature is at 90°C on average. The main problem for me is that the fan is really loud and I cannot really work with it or watch movies.

I checked the temperature with SpeedFan. 90°C with 25% CPU usage cannot be normal, right?

Can anybody help me with this? That would be really great!

Possibly, dust could be blocking airflow from coming in and getting clean air.

Flomaxx,

Take apart your laptop and check your fans, it may be very dusty. Also, try to replace the thermal paste on the CPU as well. May help a lot or maybe a bit.

Thanks for your replies.

I thought the same and already tried to get rid of dust by using a vacuum cleaner at the opening. Afterwards it became a bit better, but not a lot. Then I tried to open the laptop but I didn't manage to do it because althrough I loosened all the screws, the shell would not come off. Do you think there might still be dust, although I already used a vacuum cleaner?
