Case Cooling Options

Hi Guys,

Just want some advice.

I'm upgrading by system case to a Ncase M1 and a i7 4790K. My current system is running a Xeon E1231v3 with a Silverstone SST-AR06 Argon CPU cooler.

I don't think I will be overclocking for at least a year so I would rather stick to air cooling as I can recycle the CPU cooler. I would rather spend the extra £100 plus I would save (if i used air cooling) towards a GPU (1070).

Plus the only real 240 rads that a good enough (my opinion) are the EK Preditor or CM Masterliquid. both of which don't fit (EK too wider and thick. CM pump might to too large at 60mm).

I also want to keep my rig as quite as possible.

So my questions are -

Which 120mm fans do I get?

I was leaning towards the 2x be quite! Shadow wings PWM - or - 2x Vardar F2-120 Fans by EK (I think these are also PWM). The EK's get good reviews and are almost silent despite the 25db rating (or so the reviews say). Plus i can use the EK's on a watercooler in the future.

Positive (blowing in) or negative air pressure (blowing out)?

I was thinking positive, but it might interfere with the CPU fan air flow.

In all i want to keep the additional fan cost to £40 max.

Your feedback is much appreciated.

hot air rises, so you should take the top as exhaust and intake on the sides+bottom

the higher the static pressure, the more sound it will develop naturally.
that's why these BeQuiet are so freaking quiet - because they got almost no pressure and move little air.

I like the BeQuiet fans, but as intake they are too weak - depending on your heat situation
but if you go with BeQuiet, at least get the Silent Wings 2
as far as 120mm fans go, I can recommend Noiseblocker BlackSilents - unaudible
as intake I would use at least one "stronger" fan like a cougar vortex or a Noctua NF-S12A PWM
haven't heard of the Vardars tbh

for the bottom fans I would suggest either the noctua or silent wings 2 as in a horizontal position some fans develop some weird noise. also you need a fluid or a magnetic bearing when mounted horizontally so the fan runs still smoothly after a year or two.

Ahh - this berings me to another question. will one fan at the top (well side) pushing a out and one at the bottom pushing are in, be better than tow pushing in at the top? The EK fans are designing for waterblocks so they have good static pressure.
