I have a 5.1 receiver upstairs and was hoping to add a 2nd zone without having to buy a 650$+ receiver that supports a/b zone. I have an old receiver downstairs that I am considering using and hooking up to my pc to control but I would rather have the option of using the 5.1 system upstairs so I can have the same music coming from all my upstairs speakers and it would save me the trouble of setting up some sort of remote desktop set up with my phone.

You could use 2 Sonos Connects (one for each receiver). That would give you two zones. Play the same or different music. Control via free apps for phones, tablets and computers. Great direct access to internet music services and all your music files. Easy to set up and excellent tech support. You could add more zones with Sonos ConnectAmps, Sonos Play speakers, or Sonos Playbar. (up to 32 zones)
