I have an old Western Digital elements 1 TB external hard drive. Two weeks back its stopped working. Below is how the disk spins when I plug it in. It spins for about 10 seconds and stops. Is it really dead?
Is there any way I can recover the data?

Welcome to the TH community, @WinterSoldier984!

I'm afraid that cracking the HDD open might potentially do more harm to the contents on the drive, than good. I'd recommend you try different USB cables & ports and also attempt to connect the HDD to another computer. Since it's an old WD Elements, you could also try plugging it internally via SATA. If you manage to detect it for a longer period of time, without it disconnecting, check how the external HDD appears in Disk Management.
If the data is truly important to you, I'd strongly recommend you turn to a professional data recovery company for help. They are your best bet on getting your files back. You can check some of WD's Data Recovery Partners Worldwide here.

Hope...
