i5 6600k, h110i GT, evga supernova 650w, Crucial Ballistix Sport Lt 32GB RAM.

It stays 30c in bios, hovers around 24c and occasionally spikes to 30c for just a second on idle, but if I try to stress test it with prime95 it instantly go up to 80c and slowly make its way into the high 90's before I get worried and turn off the test. what could possibly be my problem here?

You are using prime95 version after 26.6. In newer version the program uses unrealistically high amounts of the AVX instruction set. Basically it's pushing the cpu to @120-125% load, which realistically can't happen with any normal program.

To get a realistic 100%, you need to run version 26.6 small fft, not anything newer. With that h110i GT you'll probably top out at @60-65° or so. Depends on if there any OC and the stepping/adaptive voltage your cpu is running.
