Have 2 routers working alongside each other without IP conflict

Hey, so I have 2 routers. One is the main router that is hooked up to the Internet. If I connect the second router to the first router, I can use the Internet when I connect to the second one. However, there is an IP conflict that renders the first one unusable. How can I fix this with access only to the second routers settings?

Solution
To use the second router, you should configure it as an access point. There is a sticky -- http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/36406-43-convert-wireless-router-wireless-access-point

After re-reading your post, it sounds like YOU are not the admin for the first router, since you say you only have access to the second router. If so, you MAY want to leave your router in router mode (connect to the WAN port) so that your devices have some protection from the devices on the first router. IF SO, then you probably have to change the DHCP range of the second router so that it is different than the first. Change it to 192.168.15.x (or something similar) Just not 192.168.0.x or 192.168.1.x since those are the most common DHCP settings.

Kanewolf, if I understand you correctly, all I have to do is set up the second router, put a 192.168.15.x IP and then hook it up to the first router through the Ethernet ports and I would be set?

Not quite. First, was my interpretation correct that you share the "first" router with others? If so you have to decide if you want a router (giving your equipment a layer of privacy from the others) or an access point (one network with the others). Which port you connect to on the second router is different for the two configurations.

What is the model of the second router?

And yes I share the first router with others. It is not a public thing, just in-home. Still, I do not have access to the first one and I cannot get access to the first one.

If you want to use your second router as an access point, then read the sticky I posted the link to in my first response. It gives you all the info on the appropriate steps. It doesn't have steps specific to a particular router, so you still have to go through the user interface on YOUR motdel to implement the steps. IF you mess up, then factory reset your device and start over.
