Best performing cpu coolers with the same dimensions as the stock cooler?

Here's the deal: I have a cramped mini itx build with minimal airflow (someone else built this system for me sadly) and my cpu (i5 4670k) is suffering from high temps (50-55 C idle, 85-90+ C load in some games) as a result. If the info is needed, my motherboard is the Asrock H97M-ITX/ac and my case is the Coolermaster Elite 130 Mini ITX. Because I have very minimal space to work with, my first priority is to look for something that is no larger than the stock cooler in terms of size (height and width!). So what you guys recommend as the best all around cpu cooler given these constraints? Also, I don't know much about thermal pastes and if it's worth to purchase an aftermarket one it in terms of its effects on temperatures. I'd love to hear your thoughts on that as well.

your best 2 options for this case are :

1- Zalman CNPS8900 Quiet

2-Scythe Big Shuriken 2 Rev. B

both will fit.

or you can get water cooling

Thank you, I'll look into those. And about the thermal paste -- should I use the ones that come with the coolers or purchase something aftermarket? Would it make a huge difference either way?

Just use the one that comes with it. you are not overclocking , no need.

Thank you so much for all your help!! If you don't mind, I have one final question to ask. The motherboard I have -- Asrock H97M-ITX/ac -- is it even possible to overclock on it? Right now my cpu is obviously running to hot to even think about overclocking, but say I'm able to bring the temps down with the coolers you suggested -- do you know if my motherboard supports it?

You need the Z97 for overclocking, The H97 does not support overclocking sorry.
