Here are the specs for my PC, before you say anything don't worry I already shut the computer down and i'm writing this from my laptop.

Intel Core i5-4690K CPU @ 3.50GHz, 8 GB RAM

Asus Z97-A Motherboard

AMD Radeon R9 200 Series

Ok, so this issue has been going on for about 6 days now. After going away on vacation for a week, prior to vacation the computer was working fine, I come back and my computer can barely start up google chrome without lagging out of control. Thought nothing of it at first decided to restart my PC, got the "PC Overheating" error message on start up. Over the next few days I went through a bunch of different programs and "fixes". At first I thought it was my GPU causing the issue, so I bumped my GPU's fan speed from 29% to 80%, no help. Opened up my PC and cleaned all of the dust out, still nothing. Took my PC off the carpet and aimed the outtake fan into the open air instead of against the wall, still nothing. Eventually got around to downloading a program which allowed me to monitor all of the temperatures and realized the four cores of my computer jumped to 95+ C after opening up literally any game. Instantly realized this was a huge problem, snapped a few pics got my specs down and shut the computer down. The picture of the speedfan results are shown below.

(I hope I can post links on this site, the link is just a picture of the SpeedFan screen showing all four cores at above 95 degrees Celsius)

Now I am extremely worried that I have damaged the computer beyond repair by using it for days while the cores were at that temperature.

The only thing I can think of after some research is that the thermal paste (I think I got that right) that cools the four cores has worn off (the computer is two years old, assembled by myself and my father). Before I decided to order a new fan or take the computer in for an expensive check at a local shop I decided I would try and see if any there was anyone on these forums that could shed a little bit of light on what my problem is so I can go into a store with a little bit of a better idea of what I need fixed.

Thanks in advance, if there's any other information I can give you just let me know I will try my best!

Solution
thermal solutions don't "wear off". They can become less effective over time, but we are talking about 5C at most. That said, there's a high chance your cooler isn't making proper contact, so reseating it (replacing thermal solution is a must when reseating, so two birds with one stone) will likely help.

If the system has overclocking enabled, reset it to factory defaults, and make sure all the fans are working.

What you are seeing, if you used the Intel stock cooler that came with the i5 cpu.

Is a lifting and latching problem with some of the push pins of the cpu cooler.

Just give each a firm push down and listen for any clicking sounds when doing so.

If you hear some, it means the push pins worked there way out slightly.
It can happen when the motherboard is off and left cold for a few days.

It happens because the motherboard expands and contracts due to tempreture changes, where the board can flex and warp.
