Planning to upgrade my system which currently is a i5 2500k, r9 270x, and 16gb of 1600 ram. I plan to upgrade cpu once zen comes out. The current plan is to buy an h60 water cooler and 8gb of 2133 ram and a new gpu. I am wondering what is the best gpu to pair with this cpu. Running stock fan so I want cooler to oc and better ram apparently improves frames aswell. These two should increase longevity. Gpu wise was thinking either r9 390x ($320) or an rx 480 once they become more available. Want to hear what others have to say about this plan. Is it best to just upgrade cpu now? I dont want to due to cost but if it's needed I will consider.

the best GPU to pair with i5 would be GTX 1060. I guess in your case it is RX 480 as I smell...

that was because the cpu was overclocked to 4.6 ghz

just adding faster ram will do almost nothing

but indeed, on overclocked systems with cpu bound games

faster ram can increase performance quite a bit

2666 seems to be the sweet spot >.>

AMD failed to deliver many times on both CPU and GPU front. That's one of the reasons they have earned (financially) nothing in recent history. In fact they still have 2bn debt with very small chance to repay it.
So I'd wait and see the actual Zen price performance before going to KabyLake + Optane. The 14nm seems to be a problem for the global foundries. just compare it with the TSMC 16nm (polaris vs pascal power consumption, thermals and overclockability) and you already can see that it's going to be another obsolete on release product.
Exactly as the polaris GPUs which are only good at restraining Nvidia's pricing pigliness.
