So I have a 4gb gtx 960 and some games run with no noticeable lag in 4k on my 50 inch TV such as subnautica and solus project but when updating my drivers in the nvidia settings thingy I noticed where it says current resolution 4k 30hz or whatever it says native 1920x1080 does this mean I'm not actually playing in 4k even though 4k is selected as my output sorry if this is a dumb question I just can't afford a better video card yet and am I better off playing at 1920x1080 even though I don't notice any lagging?

Well subnautica I have set at highest possible settings and same with solus project and I put the resolution on 4k but I was wondering is the gtx 960 actually putting out 4k or does it just say that it is but its really 1080p cuz my other specs are quite high maybe it evens out I have 16gb ram and a 4.7 GHz cpu I definitely can't play newer games like fallout 4 or ark survival evolved in 4k is it cuz they require way less maybe

I guess what I'm trying to ask in a much shorter version is is my 960 even capable of outputting 4k or does it just say its in 4k but only output regular hd

Thank you yeah maybe it only runs them so well cuz they are early access on steam and don't require a lot yet and as they are more finished products will start to run worse

Do you actually have the in-game settings set to 3840x2160? Early acces are some of the worst coded (generally) and tend to push hardware quite hard. Unlessyou are getting 10-15fps at 4k and are happy/don't notice the stuttering....

If the game has VERY low demands then guess the 960 can manage 4k output at 30fps.

Yes I do is there a way to post a screenshot cuz its running them both fine in the best possible settings at 3840x2160 and the picture does look amazing I just didn't know if for some reason the 960 would not have 4k output at all and was just claiming the 4k since it said native next to 1080p in the nvidia settings I don't have it set on 1080p i just noticed it said native by it but my PC is well above the recommended settings on steam if that does make a difference I don't think its in a low fps cuz the waves flow seamlessly and there's no lines going on my screen like AAA titles in 4k which are unplayable such as fallout 4 and GTA 5
