AMD FX-8350 Eight-Core, GTX 970, Asrock Extreme 4. Did I just make the worst mistake of my life with this purchase?

Thank you for clicking on my extremely long-titled thread. I was looking to upgrade my PC, and i just bought a bunch of part without looking too much into them. I'm now wondering if this was a huge mistake or if ill be fine/what i need to do to fix it.
Parts I bought:
AMD FX-8350 Eight-Core
ASRock 970 Extreme4
G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 16GB (2 x 8GB)
GTX 970
Thermaltake SMART 650W

Currently wondering if all of this is compatible or if any of this will bottleneck the GPU? Please Help. Thank!

As a budget option, 8350 is okay with gaming. As an option looking for good all around performance and value, not so much. With a good GPU, it will game fine though. It uses A LOT (bold, underlined, red, capitalized) more power and creates a lot more heat though, so consider the additional cost of cooling hardware and higher capacity PSU. Then look at a i5-6600k with lower power requirements (thus cooler temps) and efficiency.

It's not a big deal. Most games you should be fine. However, I wouldn't be surprised if you have to resort in getting a high-end aftermarket cpu cooler to prevent cpu throttling (at higher temps)...

Depends on what you will be using this rig for. Parts should not bottleneck unless you plan on throwing a PCIe SSD. Motherboard does not support version 3 on PCIe so an intel SSD 750 will bottleneck.

they're compatible, yes. the 8350 has bad single-thread performance and will thus bottle neck gaming performance. it's decent in multithreading though. 8350 is a 2012 32nm cpu, successor of the Phenom II 45nm chip that was active between 2008-2012. umm did u buy a bundle or something? the 8350's platform was pretty much a disappointment. Evidently, they produced a lot and retailers are trying to get rid of it through selling "bundles"/package deals. Both power hungry and hot, ...ok ok i'll stop.

is it a huge mistake? imo yes. it's like buying a gaming console at full price right before it becomes obsolete and the next generation console comes out at the end of the year.

Hmm.. i was planning on using the rig for gaming, not entirely sure what an ssd even is tbh. There's lots of mixed reviews on this thread, one good, one terrible, and yours is medium.. Is it the worst if I wanted to game with this rig? or am I gonna need to buy newer parts?
edit: im using a hard drive, the little spinny disk, no ssd.

look at benchmarks. It's competitive in some 1v1 tests, but others are distinctly different. i'm not gonna spend any more time explaining myself, but for someone who doesn't know what an ssd is to begin with nor put forth the effort in extensive research on what's the best price-to-performance purchase when it comes to gaming, i don't know what else to say without sounding "terrible" as you said in your post.

For gaming you won't notice difference between that cpu and an intel at the same price. Intel CPU's are more efficient but cost more too. It's the GPU that it is more important for gaming and the one you bought is just fine. Also don't worry about high temperatures or anything. It is just that ppl like their CPUs to run at room temperature while they are made to work just as fine at high temps.
