Hi.

I have a problem with my Touro external hard drive 1TB. When I was using it, it suddenly disconnected and failed to reconnect, The light on the device when off and disconnect itself from my laptop. When I almost instantly unplug the drive USB cable and reinserted it to the port, it won't detect.

I actually went to fix this earlier at a shop but the staff told me that it was only virus attack and he fixed for me. I came home and plug it to the USB and it worked for like a minute and then the light suddenly went off and the drive is disconnected.

And if I let my external sit out for 5 minutes or so and then plug it back to the USB port, the light came on and I can use it again but after 10 minutes it got disconnected again.

Is it the cable? Is it the drive? or is it my laptop?

I'm thinking of going back to the shop tomorrow but if anyone could help me out here, that would be much appreciated.

thank you.

Welcome to the Tom's Hardware community, @ariaariana2012!

I believe the issue has most probably something to do with the cable. I'd suggest you use a different USB cable and try using a different USB port on your laptop. If you have access to another PC/laptop, try the external HDD there and see if it will get properly recognized without disconnecting.
This should help you determine the source of the problem. Hopefully, changing the USB cable should fix it, though.

Keep me posted & Good luck! :)
