G3258? Is mine a cold looking cpu? Overclocking advise?

Hi all,
My G3258K pentium dual-core was running stock GHZ - I was able to play euro truck simulator and Minecraft and even have 1 running in the background whilst playing the other and the temps went no higher than 45C - Is my CPU's one of these "cold" cpu's that dont run very hot? anyway I can overclock my cpu to 4.2 and 4.6 definatly - havent tried anything else yet but I have severe -Instability issues always Blue screening on windows 8 - I have not moved the voltage but I wondered if someone could tell me how I can overclock to at least 4.2 (4.6+ prefered) with the system being quite stable because I also make YouTube videos (On stock 3.2) which can be found here -

I also use the DeepCool twin fan 80MM cooler - not sure wich model though

Thanks guys
Regards

Like with any overclock, if you want higher CPU clock speeds, you have to supply it with more juice, so increase the CPU core voltage. If CPU does not get enough voltage, with an overclock dialled in, then you will run into instability problems. But more voltage means more heat too. Because you're not increasing your voltage, that's why your CPU is staying cool.

If I remember correctly, I increased my G3258 core voltage to around 1.340V to get around a 4.6 Ghz overclock but everybody's chip can vary. It's a bit of a lottery but G3258s should easily overclock to 4.5 Ghz.

Even though the G3258 doesn't generate that much heat, the stock cooler is tiny and has trouble keeping up with that chip at higher speeds and the higher voltages that are required for those speeds. You definitely need to raise the voltage, but I would not go higher than 1.25V on the stock cooler. If you want to overclock higher than whatever speed 1.25V allows, you'll need a better cooler. The CoolerMaster Hyper 212 EVO would be great for that CPU.

I got rid of the stock cooler in February because I had the computer bits for Christmas - (im 14 years old) and built the pc that night (I love tech and really into computers) I knew I wanted this chip because I wanted to OC. and I knew this chip is probaly the best for the price - I decided in February to Overclock and knew the stockcooler wasnt good enoguh - My dad was saying that I won't need a diffrent cooler but I convinced him I needed a better cooler so we settled on the DeepCool twin fan - Here is the link

Thanks for the info - I will wait for a reply from the last guy - who said i need a bettercooler than stock to see what he says - also im in scotland until 6/8/2016 so then I will test your stuff and anyone elses answers then pick the best / solution - I dont want to pick what is most likely to be the solution before I tested like for example I could pick your as the best now because so far its the most info and then it end up being someone else who solved it. well anyway thanks

Ah that's so cool - I built my first PC when I was 14. Now I'm 34, and my 11 year old son is getting ready to build his first. Time flies!

Keep the voltage below 1.3V and you should be safe. I own a G3258 system with an average-quality chip, and it does 4.4GHz@1.275V.

I first built one when I was 11 :) - it had a galaxy 3 case and had a foxconn motherboard - the mobo only lasted about 2 years because all the capacitors blown under the cpu cooler it was quite a old mobo - heavily used before me

You're welcome mate :)

Should have also mentioned that to get to 4.6 Ghz, I used an aftermarket cooler, a Hyper 212 Evo. The CPU stayed very cool (under 65 degrees at full load) when overclocked to 4.6. You can overclock with the stock cooler but I wouldn't go past 4.3 Ghz with that.

Good luck and have fun overclocking this great little chip!

Thanks - I should have some fun - the only thing is when I chose my parts I chose the MSI-H81M-P33 and I kinda wish I had chose the Asus one or the Gigabyte ones because they have more connections for things but I have my way around thwse though - also this is Micro ATX so space is better

I run my g3258 now at 4.5ghz on 1.3 volts, Lower or higher volts crashes, Lower or higher ghz crashes (Even with changed volts)
