I currently have a Intel Core i5 2550K CPU and an ASUS p8z77-V LX mobo. I am planning on buying a MSI GTX 1080, should I look at upgrading my mobo and CPU as well or can I use the components just fine?
Each cards work better with a certain resolution, check this thread (http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-3137706/1080-strix-underperforming.html) which i mentioned what is going on.
Short answer: GTX 1060 or GTX 1070 is the best choice if you don't have in mind playing at 1080p or , why not, in the future play @ 1440p.
I would try picking the 1080, and OC the best possible that CPU and check if it goes fine.
Are you going to play @ 1440p with higher frecuency or 4k?
No, I dont plan to OC or play at high freq, I just want smooth 1080 across majority of my games. I also dont really want to spend a lot on this computer seeing as I paid 800 for it from my cousin.

youre right, one the 1070 is much cheaper, still is a darn good card and seeing as I am not trying to push to the limits no need to go above and beyond. Now will my current CPU, MOBO and RAM work fine with it?
