i was going to get a 64 bit os but i heard that it could harm my pc if i dont have at least 4gb of ram in my pc. if i upgrade, would it fix it all? thanks for letting me know!

Yes ... 64 bit OS (I'm assuming you're using windows) will solve the issue. For reasons I don't fully understand the 32 bit version on Win can only use the 3.46 G of Ram no matter how much you actually have. So .... the 32 bit version is considered very 'old school' these days. It's kind like, there was a time when file names could only be 7 characters long.

Definitely upgrade! - unfortunately - I don't think there is anyway to save your programs etc. so back-up your data etc. and have at it. Afterwards, when you go to install programs - try to get the 64 bit versions if possible. Win (64) will run 32 bit programs but it's much better to have the 64 bit versions when you have the choice.

oh ... and expect to spend a little time with your drivers - the newly installed OS will probably find most of them automatically but there's usually a few problematic ones. I know the best thing to do is to search for each problematic driver and manually install but ... personally I find that very frustrating. I've had very good luck with 'IO Bit Driver Booster' (there is a free, trial version) - download it, open it up, let it scan and hit the 'update all drivers' button - give it the time it needs to find and install the drivers and ... bingo, job done!
Enjoy all that extra Ram - it should make a huge difference!
