hi
these are my specs
MSI 760GMA p34(fx)
FX 6300 @ 4.2ghz
GTX 970 SSC
gskill 8gb 1600mhz cas 10
evga 500w 80 plus

so i was overclocking my cpu, i got upto 4.2ghz 1.375v and the temps were at 50c. i wanted to to push my cpu farther so i went in the bios and i turn the voltage up to 1.425v and set the multiplier to 4.3ghz and as soon as i saved my settings and rebooted my pc turned on but didnt post. so i reset the cmos by shorting the pins and finaly got it to post. i wanna know if i was doing something wrong. just so u guys know i didnt touch anything but the multipler, the cpu vdd voltage and a couple other settings like coll and quite and stuff, any way i want to know if that is as far mobo can go or if i am overclocking wrong. should i touch the other voltages such as cpu-nb vdd voltage or change maybe the blck clock. please help.

BTW, i know that my mobo isnt ideal niether is my psu, but i want to try anyway and my friend got his fx 8320 to 4.2ghz @ 1.42 volts on this board

That does appear to be the case.

What's your CPU stock speed? Maybe you hit a plateau, and IMO, jumping voltage like that isn't good, I prefer small increase. Also, do you have LLC option on your MOBO? That helps a lot with voltage drops, also check the total chip voltage input, not just the core voltage.

does that mean my cpu is a bad overclocker and has reached its limit?

Yup it could definitely be your límit. I'd stay at 4.2 with the lowest voltage possible to prevent unnecessary heat
