What Could be Damaged?

I just moved, and I transported my desktop along with me. After putting my hard drives back in and connecting everything up, everything was seeming to work. However, once I started playing games, things started to be out of the ordinary. I began by playing ArmA 3. In this game, it froze every half to two seconds. Some of the freezing took milliseconds, which most times is usual over a spread amount of time, and some seemed endless, which were extremely unusual. The next game I tried was Forza Apex. At first, it would get stuck on the loading screen. Once I was able to get in, all settings were automatically set very low at a very low resolution. I then tried GTA 5. It took a much longer time to start than usual, and once I got in, every texture and object started to disappear. During all games, the FPS was at its usual rate, except in Forza where the vSync was automatically set to 30 FPS along with all other lowered settings.

For the move, I placed the computer in the case's original box along with the padded foam and some extra bubble wrap on the sides. I kept all components in place, including the graphics card, except the HDDs which I removed, placed in anti-static bags, and placed them in their original boxes along with more than sufficient padding. I'm thinking this might be a problem with the processor, but what are your thoughts on what might be damaged?

Hi Diego,

During the transportation the desktop could have received a lot of static if it was transported roughly (I doubt this is the case)

Have you tried reseating the graphics card if you know how to?

This seems to be an issue with the graphics card (To me, personally) as it was set to the lowest settings in the game - Which graphics card do you have, as some can be quite heavy and unstable (Such as the GTX 970 that I own)

Also, to do with the processor, do you use the stock cooler or an aftermarket one? If it is an aftermarket one, which one is it? As some of them are quite large and can move around.

Are there any other issues with the desktop? Such as; Fans running faster/louder; Less CPU Usage; Less GPU Usage. Have you had a look at these in task manager or in GPU-Z or CPU-Z?

In terms of transportation, apart from what I have said before, it was placed in a U-Haul trailer (it had no suspension) with pillows around the box.

I have reseated the graphics card and I'm still having the issues. It actually is also a GTX 970. I don't believe it's a graphics card issue since in the other games, which don't automatically adjust settings, the same FPS was maintained as before, where the problem is that there's trouble loading things.

I am using the stock cooler which looks to be running smoothly, and I believe that the temps are similar to before, maybe a tiny bit higher. Maybe two minutes after playing GTA I saw the CPU temp at 42'C, and right now it's steady at 28'C.

There doesn't seem to be any other issues. The internet is running fine, and I can still watch videos with ease, even with the wi-fi usb I just installed. The issues only come when playing games.

Right, Okay.

I'm not fully sure about what it could be. Could it be something to do with the games directly?

Also, have you overclocked your 970? As it could cause instability if it is too high, I doubt that would be the case though.

Have you tried reinstalling the games at all?

Now looking at it, it could be something to do with the hard drives. Have you tried troubleshooting them and seeing if it picks anything up? It could be some sort of read error while reading the game its self. Maybe try error-checking and defragging your hard drives, that could help in some sort of way.

I doubt that your issue will be with the processor, as if it is running similarly to how it was before then it will most likely not be the issue.

Try the hard drive solutions and get back to me.

Thanks

Dom,

That was it. I troubleshooted, error-checked, and defragmented, and that solved it all.

Thank you so much for your help. I'll let you know if anything develops or comes up again.

Thank you,

Diego
