I am thinking of building a gaming/video editing system as my first build.

I am going uni this September, studying computer science and i have decided to build a pc system for myself to help me complete different projects at uni. Along with uni, i will also be editing youtube videos at 1080p, with a max resolution of 4k. My budget of building a system is £1500. Within this budget i will be needing ALL COMPONENTS including MONITOR AND PERIPHERALS. However, the one thing that i will not be needing is an OS. I already have an OS on a USB which i will be using. Seeing as i will be editing in 4k, i would prefer a 4k monitor within the budget if possible. . The monitor does not need to have a very high hz, as long as it has an IPS panel, 4k quality, 5 ms the highest response time and at least a 27 inch screen, im not too bothered about the other gaming factors as i wont be hardcore gaming.

In terms of gaming, I am looking to game at 1440p without ANY problems with the fps. I may wish to game at 4k here and there if im feeling up to it. 4k gaming is not a big thing for me, i believe the resolution at 1440p is just as good. I will mainly be playing games such as FIFA, Black ops, Battlefield, Doom, GTA, Skyrim and etc.

Overall, Video editing performance is more important but both are just as important as each other. Id say 55% video editing and 45% gaming. I am based inside the UK.

My final request is that, by spending this much money on the system, how long do you think it will last me? Im looking at 5/6 years if im 100% honest.

Solution

It ends up being more expensive than what I gave you, but other than that nothing particularly stands out.
Considering your demands, NO IT'S IMPOSSIBLE!

Not to hurt your feelings or anything mate; although i do appreciate the help, that is a terrible build for £1600.
1) The keyboard and mouse are way overpriced.
2) I specifically said i do not need the OS.
3) The Dell monitor is a terrible 4k monitor for its price.
4) The Case is of terrible quality

Thats the top 4 problems i can think of. Im sure, if you put your head to it, you'll 100% be able to come up with a better build than the one you provided.

Once again mate, do not take offence. If i somehow offended you i apologise in advance.

1) I picked the mouse and keyboard combo for EDITING purposes, not gaming ones. You specifically stated editing>gaming. Macros in editing software can be a huge time save.
2) 99% of people who say they don't need an OS are lying to themselves. I don't care if you have an installer on USB, what you need is an unused license. HOWEVER, note that the price of the OS WAS NOT INCLUDED
3) That 4K monitor is the cheapest IPS 4K monitor of reasonable quality. If you want better, pay more.
4) I don't care about the case, I randomly picked one at 35 price range, find yourself an ATX case you think looks nice, not like it changes price or performance by much.

Those things said, the base system is solid and will last, pick peripherals and a case you would prefer within that budget (roughly 400 to split between case, keyboard, mouse, and monitor).

Okay mate.

Compare your build to my build that i just created within a few min and tell me which one is better?

1) The 980ti is in every way inferior, get the 1070, it's only a tiny bit more expensive
2) That PSU is entirely unacceptable, you WILL have issues. Stick to the RM650x or go with the EVGA G2 650 (not NEX, G1, or GQ)
3) I would stay way from reddragon stuff, it tends to break easily
4) 1TB is not enough for video editing. Go 2TB+ now before you need more space and have to shell out more cash

Hows this now?

Updated link:

I have a spare 1tb sitting in my room so ill place that inside the system. In terms of red dragon, i was thinking of going with the coolermaster bundle? i just need a keyboard and mouse for a few weeks then ill move onto purchasing the razer peripherals.
