Hello guys.I'm new at the forum.I'm thinking about upgrading my GPU but my processor is holding me back from doing that (CPU is a phenom ii x4 955BE oc to 3.8 Ghz).I'm looking for gaming only at 1080p and not further.I'm thinking for the rx 480 or the gtx 1060.Would be worth the upgrading or the fps would be <60 fps? (My current graphics card is a HD5750). Thank you. :)

Personally, as more of a Nvidia fan, I would personally recommend the Gtx 1060. But both cards are very good cards for a low budget. Both would allow a slight overclock (If wanted) But the Rx 480 is a more power-hungry card, but it is still able to run games at 60+ FPS at high settings.

This is just my opinion, but it depends on you. If you want a card that is less power-hungry, but still performs really well (And does cost a little extra) get the 1060. But if you want a more power-hungry, but a cheaper option and you only lose a little bit of performance, then get the rx 480. If you are on a limited budget, the rx480 can be purchased for under £200, which personally, is a really good deal for the performance of the graphics card...

I'll answer you because I can give you my 1st hand experience. I currently have a phenom II x6 1035T OC'd to 3,2 and recently installed a GTX 1060 and, fairly enough, there is some bottleneck in, for example, GTA V, but still has been a massive improvement from my old r7 260x, going from around 40fps in medium settings to 60 with drops to 40's (when the bottleneck hits harder) with a mixture of high and very high settings.

In your situation it will be even more of an upgrade, I say go for it and enjoy it until u can upgrade ur CPU/Motherboard to something like an i5 or even an fx processor.

Also, make sure that your power supply has a 6pin PCI-ex. connector and supports the 120W/150W of a 1060 or 480 respectively.

Good luck :D

These cards will not be bottlenecked as you have overclocked your processor to 3.8GHz.

So yeah,

GTX 1060:
Added Performance
Less Power Hungry
Costs more (230+/-)

RX480:
Really Small Performance Loss
Costs Less (£180+/-)
More Power Hungry (Maybe louder as it runs at higher temperatures)

As an owner of a GTX 970, I do admit that it is a very good card, however, I believe the price of the 970 and 1060 is really similar, and would not really make too much of a difference. The 1060 however, performs practically the same as a 980, so it would probably be better to upgrade to the 1060 rather than the 970.

But the 970 is an exceptionally good card, and will be able to run basically any game, max, or close to max settings at 60FPS.
