Hi guys
i'm planning on saving up to a 1070 and i was wondering if i could get away with my bad psu...
I have the Cooler master B 500 psu(500watts)
And other parts:
Fx 6300
8gb ram
1x ssd
1x hdd
1x dvd reader
3x 120mm fans
And an asus m5a97r2.0 mobo
(Also gtx 750 video card that i wanna upgrade to the 1070)
So on a psu calculating tool it said i needed minimum 400 watts psu, with my system and the 1070...

Just wanted to hear your opinions!
Thanks for any answers:)

The good news is that PSU is not house fire quality. The bad news is yeah its a low end PSU. The worst that will happen is system instability (as in it will crash while playing games). It may well work fine for a while, but I would plan on replacing it at your earliest convenience. Especially if it crashes (all you're gonna do is mess up your data).

EDIT: And we have all given you this same advice for each version of this question you have asked. There is nowhere in the world we are going to say this PSU is OK. Its not. If you can spend $400 on a GPU you can spend $80 on a decent PSU, if not, then you should downgrade to a GTX 1060. It is still more than enough for 1080p gaming at max settings with the rest of your system.

You should consider changing your cpu because it will make massive bottleneck in games.

As for your psu - i think it will work, but change it for something with better quality in near future.

Except that it won't be. While faster CPUs will perform better of course, this CPU will not be a "massive bottleneck" that will make games unplayable. In a significant portion of games the difference is only a few FPS, only CPU heavy games does it make a difference of 10 or more fps.

I just researched this CPU for someone else and it is true you will see up to a 50% drop in FPS in some games like Starcraft for example, vs the latest Intel CPU's. In other games that are more GPU dependent you wont notice much hit on FPS. Its very game dependent if the fairly poor single threaded performance of the FX-6300 will cause a substantial bottleneck or not.

You asked for advise so please do yourself a favor and take this advice above. :) He is pushing you to get a good PSU and it is more than worth the upgrade. Those of us who answer questions here see so many PSU issues every day its not funny. Things like burnt PC's, fried motherboards, PC crashes, weird Windows errors that don't cause a crash etc. The power supply is the most important thing in a PC and unfortunately at the very same time the most neglected thing in a PC.
