Hello. I have an r9 390x and I've walked through about 5 different guides telling me how to disable the 60 fps cap on this game.

The first thing I did was went into the steam folder where the game is located and navigated to fallout 4 prefs and edited the line Ipresentinterval=1 and set it to 0. Saved the file and then booted up the game. The game was still locked at 60 fps.

So I look up another guide and it says make sure the prefs doc isn't in read only. So I checked and it wasn't. So that wasn't it.

Right now I was thinking maybe AMD has some sort of setting that is enabling vsync like nvidia does. So I go into the control panel and see that the 60 fps limiter is disabled and triple buffering is off. The only thing that was on basically was surface optimization. Which I doubt is vsync.

Anyways after further exploration into my my documents folder and finding the fallout 4 files there. I open up all of them and the fallout 4 doc and the fallout 4 prefs doc had the ipresent interval line there also, so I set both of them to 0 and made sure all of the docs were not in read only mode.

So I'm like this has to work now. Booted up the game and nope. Still locked at 60 fps.

My next thing was it had to be drivers or something like that. I downloaded the latest crimson drivers ( I think it's 17.3) The one released on the 28th. So anyways after downloading it I uninstall my current drivers via the regular method. Then I launch ddu and uninstall it that way also. (I always make sure everything is cleaned). Afterwards I installed the drivers. Everything goes well. So I launch the game and nope. Still stuck at 60 fps.

I'm not understanding what I'm doing wrong and this is extremely frustrating. if anyone has any suggestions I'll try anything lol.

A couple of things for you to check:

1) Some people say that even after following the guide and disabling vsync etc they only get over 60fps when running in windowed mode.
2) It says in the guide that after you edit \My Documents\My Games\Fallout4\Fallout4Prefs.ini so that Ipresentinterval=0 you need to then set the file back to read only to stop fallout 4 modifying it. Presumably it can set it back to 1 when you run the game.

Not sure if any of that is helpful.

See if you have vertical sync on. Other games (warthunder comes to mind) When V-Sync is on, it will cap at 60 frames, as soon as I took it off, I had 120 lol. Go through your seetings and see.

Perfect! That's what kept happening! I read another guide that said make sure they're not on read only. So that was the problem.

Thank you so much! Lol this frustrated me for a while.

So I have a 144hz gsync monitor which locked the game at 144 fps. Let me tell you this was not good. The reason they lock the game to 60 FPS is because the engine bases a lot of things on the FPS. One of my more memorable events was when dogmeat shot into the air because of the broke physics. Also lockpicking is also affected by this. When I had disabled the cap all togethere I ended up with about 1000 fps during lockpicking making it completely impossible as any touch moved the lockpick to the complete opposite side.
