I am upgrading from a i5-4690 to a i7-4790k and I was wondering would I need 90% alcohol to remove the thermal paste from my heat sink or is there anything else I could use? Also what material would be best to wipe of the thermal paste? Finally, I have a coolermaster cpu fan and heat sink would I need to use coolermaster thermal paste or would any work?

Solution
Alcohol is fine for cleaning the tim. the purer the better, but do not obsess about it.
Run a stress test to preheat your cpu a bit to soften the old paste to ease removing the old cooler.
I use a paper coffee filter for cleaning. It is lint free.

Most any tim will work fine.
