Computer won't turn on. Maybe its the powersw/PSU?

Anytime I try to turn on the computer, it either won't start or it turns on then turns off. I open the computer up and noticed the psw is very loose, as if it won't lock in into the pins. I believe that was the problem, yet when I tried to change the powersw with the reset switch, that didn't work either. I'm running if options to figure out what is wrong with my computer.

Sometimes it turns off immediately when I turn it. Or it will shut off after I sign in. But I don't see that error as it usually turns off within in seconds or it won't turn on at all. The power button in the mono lights on so it can't be the PSU. And I just saw earlier today asking to reset my bios, but I couldn't do anything about as my computer shut down.

The light on the motherboard only represents that the motherboard sees voltage on at least some of its wires.
This in no way means that the PSU can support any sort of a load.

In regards to reseting your bios you reset it with the power off, consult your motherboard manual. In reality though it is likely not the bios, I am putting 85% chance on it being the PSU.

I had a similar problem on an old PC I was troubleshooting. It would turn on, work fine, and then anywhere from 1 minute to 1 hour later, it would blue-screen, shut down, and restart. I wiped the drive and reinstalled windows, checked the motherboard, ram, etc. Finally, I replaced the Power Supply unit and it fixed the problem. If you have an extra power supply or can borrow a friends, check to see if that solves the problem before buying a new one.

I stated earlier how to test the power switch.

Disconnect switch from motherboard header pins.
Take flathead screwdriver and touch the two (MAKE SURE IT IS SPECIFICALLY THOSE 2) power switch pins you just disconnected.
If the problem is only with the switch then then PC will turn on and run just fine.

You may have gotten unlucky with a bad PSU, if it is under warranty then try to get an RMA, or replacement. You can try Boosted1g's suggestion to see if it works before buying a new PSU. It will be a lot cheaper just to buy a new power button.

. I tried the flathead screwdriver trick, so it most likely wasnt the powersw as it wouldn't start when I press the two pins with the flathead screwdriver. So it maybe the psu. Even with the computer is on, I have to turn it off from the psu power switch, wait a few minutes then turn it on and press the case fans mobo

I just want to mention that I am having less trouble with my computer. The computer doesn't seem to restart like it usually did a few days ago, but I have to turn it off, wait a few minutes then turn it back on and it will be okay and not giving me any troubles. I was able to use the computer for most of the day on Wednesday without any troubles.

Is your PSU fan working properly? It may be overheating or something and shutting down for safety reasons. Just another thing that you could look into trouble shooting.
