Hello

I just built a pc with the following specs.

Asus B85m
GTX 750 Ti
I3 4370
8gb Ballistix
CX500 PSU
Corsair 200r
120mm front intake, rear 120mm exhaust(top rear), 120mm exhaust on side(top because is laying on it's side)
Evo 212 cooler

I am getting temps all over the place with 3 different softwares. Real temp, speccy, and Hw monitor.

The average idle temp is 45C and running MAME, Daemon Tools, and Hyperspin for my arcade machine that it is in, i see highest temps of around 55C. Not crazy by any means but the idle temps confuse me.

Also the Bios and speedfan temps have it at 35C idling.

Also in Hw monitor the temps would jump every second by 1-15c!

When installing the cooler i had a really hard time lining up the bracket so the heatsink kept sliding around on me. I used a pea shaped amount of thermal paste and spread it with a credit card.

When running Prime95, i got a highest temp of 79.

I have speedfan running my fans at 70%, Asus bios set to Turbo for fans, and using a fan splitter because my MOBO only has 2 fan headers. 3 Counting the CPU fan header.

I am seeing Sys Fan, CPU fan, and Auxilary0 in the speedfan menu.

Which temps are correct?

Are the higher temps acceptable?

Why are there only 3 fans showing up when i technically have 4including the CPU fan?

Should i reseat the cooler?

What could be causing 25% CPU usage at desktop?

Thanks so much for any help. This is my second build so i am still fairly new to this. Go easy on me please :p

The reason why you only see 3 fans is because many programs do not regard CPU cooler as as a fan. This is because it has no way of recognizing if it is stock cooled, water cooled or air cooled. The 25% CPU usage are all the programs that are running in the backround that are used to analyse your fans. these programs combined can cause some CPU usage. Steam, chrome etc. take up some usage as well. hope this helped!

Thank you. How do i know which fan is which?

So at 25% CPU usage, idling at 44C really isn't that bad then? I would imagine at 5%-10% it would be even cooler as the real temp test had lows of 32C at like 5% CPU usage.

On your motherboard it should indicate which fan is connected to which fan connector, the program recognizes this and then puts it in on your screen. i say just check your motherbaord. Your idle tempurature of 44C is not bad at all, if your willing to lower it, you would have to buy a better performing cpu cooler, but that is really your choice. So no pressure bro.
hope this helped!
