Computer Won't Use Added Ram ;

Hey all

A while ago I built a computer for my aunt for working purposes. Turns out that reusing 2 GB in her PC wasn't enough,(applaud me pls) and she bought more of the same kind (I checked ; exact same)

When I came to look as she was having problems these things happen ;
1. Mobo emits long pulse beeps. (According to the ASUS manual I could find, that means that is a RAM issue, at least I'm pretty sure it is)
2. You can go with the 2 GB ram that was there before and it works fine, just a little sluggish.

What's happening, where can I fix it?

Did you test the new stick in the SAME slot the old stick was in?
(so do NOT use the old stick at first)

You should also test with Memtest86 www.memtest86.com (full pass on default settings. about 15 minutes for 4GB)

Make sure memory is fully seated.
If more than two SLOTS make sure the memory is in the correct slots (see motherboard manual).

If you still have issue, give:
a) motherboard model (see CPU-z or Speccy programs if in doubt. Example would be "Asus Z87-A")
b) Windows version (i.e W10 Home 64-bit, or W7 Pro 32-bit etc)

Thanks guys, here's my theory on what the issue is as I am not really sure, I think SR-71 Blackbird might have explained it right though.

When the beep codes were going, I must have not paid attention to older and newer sticks, even though they looked the same. I kept them sorted the way they were in while I was posting and waiting for a reply.

I think what her problem was (as she's pretty inexperienced from what I know) is that she probably put the ram that was in there before in the 1st two seats and the new ones in the last two seats (Original - Original - New - New)

What I tried when that idea came to me was (Original - New - Original - New) which would be what one would do if they got completely different memory, from what I can tell.

Thanks for your help anyway :)
