I not to long ago overclocked my Sapphire R9 280 (not the best, I know) but its running hotter and hotter than it did before. I made a custom fan curve that doesn't let it past 74c... but it's hitting 74c... after I pulled back my oc from 1100MHz to 1000MHz and the memory from 1380 to 1350Mhz... in the middle of winter. I do though, have a $30 oil heater inder my desk to keep my feet warm.
So I had the idea to replace my thermal compund. I'd love to do it today but some tutorials recommend buying thermal pads and others don't. Will changing thermal pads help? or can I just reuse the ones on the card?!

Thanks

Callum

The thing about thermal pads is not that they cannot be reused, it's just that depending on how old the card is, the climate the card has been in and how you open it might cause them to break or not. If they do break, it's not recommended to use them again as they will get displaced over time and could end up causing temperature problems. Also, you can get better quality thermal pads so it might give you a little bit of an improvement.

Ok, thanks. I think Its safer to just order some thermal pads and wait till then.
