I recently put together a new gaming desktop. It was working fine for a few days. Suddenly, while I was in the middle of an Overwatch match, the monitor lost signal. I tried replacing the HDMI cable from the GPU to the monitor with no luck. I eventually shut down the computer and rebooted it. Unfortunately, I do not get any post to the monitor, either from the motherboard or the GPU. All that happens right now is that the CPU fans turn on along with the case fans. The motherboard has the EZ Debug LEDs and the CPU one is steadily on. No posting. Nothing else.

CPU: Intel Core i7-6700K 4.0GHz Quad-Core Processor
CPU Cooler: NZXT Kraken X61 106.1 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler
Motherboard: MSI Z170A Tomahawk AC ATX LGA1151 Motherboard
Memory: Kingston HyperX Fury Black 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-2133 Memory
Storage: Samsung 950 PRO 256GB M.2-2280 Solid State Drive + Samsung 850 EVO-Series 500GB 2.5" Solid State Drive
Video Card: MSI Gaming GeForce GTX 1080 GDDR5X DirectX 12 VR Ready (GeForce GTX 1080 Sea Hawk X)
Case: NZXT Noctis 450 ATX Mid Tower Case
Power Supply: EVGA 850W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 10 Home OEM 64-bit
Monitor: Acer XB271HU bmiprz 27.0" 165Hz Monitor

I know it is a little overboard to list off everything, but I really need a solution to this. I have no idea what happened as I said it was fine one minute then off. I don't know if I can deal with replacements due to most of this being paid by family as a gift. Please be respectful and please fully explain yourselves. I appreciate any help I can get.

Dude I have almost same specs as you and same problem, cpu fan spins, gpu fans doesn't and cpu led is on (problem). Today I tried a working mobo and the cpu led is still on, no post. Im guessing its faulty cpu. Im not sure. It also could be the PSU. Im going to try another CPU asap. Yo its probably the PSU I just tried an old PSU and it started! I guess some shortcircuit or maybe some overvoltage burned the PSU. Maybe you connected something while the pc was on like a hdd.

But what could have caused it? Everything was working perfectly fine without issue for a few days. Games ran fine. No issues until that moment. If I just replace it, then it could happen again. I wanna try to know why it happened so I can stop it next time.

I know I didn't change or connect anything while it was on. The question I have for you is how did this situation happen to you then? Was you're system already up and running then had the crash/issue? Or did it just not start in the first place giving you that issue? I am thinking the cpu might have overheated but I am not entirely sure. I ordered a new one and it will be here tomorrow so I will know then. If it doesn't, then I'll check the psu next.

Well I'll order another psu and see if that was the problem. I just wanna know if it was a defect or something I did so I can stop it from happening again. was your system new like mine or had it been used for a while?

Ok. Thank you very much for the assistance and advice. Hopefully replacing the psu does the trick. Just hope that it wasn't something I did that messed it up

It was the psu. Right after replacing it everything worked perfectly. I'll be sure to keep an eye on it for a while just to be sure. I wanted to thank those for offering advice and support for my issue.
