Hi friends i got a pc
I7 4790
16 gb ddr3 1600 mhz
Gtx 970
1 tb sshd
Z97 guard pro
CM v1000 psu
I bought this pc last year but suddenly skylake dropped aur ddr3 got replaced by ddr4 now iam pretty depressed seems like my whole build has gone obselete. Should i the go for skylakeor kaby build soon aur will this cpu will easily pass me 4 years? What upgrades should i make soon?

Solution
thats VERY similiar to my build. Im not worried at all just yet. personally... im probably going to wait till kaby or even 1 gen after that. And then ill go for the gtx 11xx or if i can push it the 12xx.

if you do want to upgrade, do what trafalgar747 said and pick up a 1070. and then i would also grab a PCIe SSD to run stuff off . but both of these arent needed, just fun stuff to feed the mod bug :D

That CPU is a non K, if it had been a k chip it would be i7 4790k.

With regards to your build being obsolete, I would not worry as this is still pretty high spec and should run nearly all games at high settings at 1080p resolution. This will last you a long time and you should only have to update your graphics card once your GTX 970 starts struggling with future games.

Just remember that no matter what you buy, it will become dated over time.

Just thought i'd chip in and say that I definitely agree with Trafalgar here.
The rest of the build is solid and will last you easily another few years.
An SSHD is perfectly fine for storage as is, but the only thing I would recommend any time soon is a GPU upgrade to something like the GTX 1070/80 and potentially a 144hz 1440p monitor to go along with it.
Wait another month or so if you want until prices drop a bit, the inflation and stocking is crazy at the moment!

I have an i7 4790 S variant and it runs all of my games and benchmarks I throw at it perfectly fine, paired with a GTX 1070 FTW. I wouldn't worry about upgrading that CPU until a few generations have passed / when you start to see performance drops.
