I have an ASUS K42Jr laptop. It has two RAM slots of which one has stopped functioning. There were 2 GB Elpida cards in each, so now I'm left with with just one. I am planning to use 4 GB RAM in the functioning slot. I don't know much about component configurations, so I am looking for recommendations. I play games like CS:GO and others in this range. I dont play games which require high-end components. I don't know if my RAM takes 1.5V or 1.35V (as i came to know abt it on Amazon while browsing http://www.amazon.in/Transcend-4GB-DDR3L-1600-LAPTOP/dp/B00B5LOOJG?ie=UTF8&psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=ox_sc_act_title_1&smid=A1QFJV05H9TXZX).
I use Win 7 Home Prem 32-bit which came bundled with my laptop. Any help is much appreciated. Thanks.

Hi,
I don't know much about what running games and what voltage your ram should be.
One thing you might try though - I was looking to upgrade Ram a while back and a lot of the sites I found that sold it simply required me to input the make and model of the computer. It would then display a list of suitable Ram stick options to buy.
So .... you could go to a few sites like that - have a look at the sticks they suggest and see what the voltage is of the sticks they recommend. It may even be the case that each slot can only see a max of 2GB so check to see if they recommend any 4 GB sticks.
BTW - I'm curious as to why you say one of the ram slots has stopped functioning - isn't it more likely to be the ram stick rather than the slot?
Also, have you tried swapping the ram from the slots they are in to the other way around - apparently this sometimes works.
Further - if it seems like your slots will read 4 GB sticks and you decided you wanted to go with 2 of them or ... your 2 GB with a 4 GB .... your 32 bit OS will only be able to use 3.48 GB - you'd have upgrade to 64 bit to get beyond that maximum usable ram limitation.

Thanks Robert!
As per your advice I DID find out a site or two which asked for my make n model and showed me compatible recommendations (and all of the recommendations were listed as 1.35V, so i guess mine's fall into that category).
As far as your questions is concerned abt the RAM slot defect, I agree that there could be memory stick problem, but I was told abt my defect at ASUS service centre after I got it diagnosed. They actually handed me over the 2GB RAM themselves!! So, when they said that its slot defect I had to believe.
Secondly, I had no idea about the max usable limitation in the 32-bit version. So, here's another lame question I guess, what if I upgrade my laptop to the 'free Windows 10 upgrade'? Is there a way to get 64-bit OS somewhere there? OR are there any other options which is not currently popping in my head! Thanks. (Note: My laptop is 64-bit compatible, as it arrived with 64-bit OS, but somewhere down the line at the service centre, they asked me if they could do it 32-bit due to availability issues at their end and I approved, not knowing the impact of the decision then.)
