So I bought a graphics card from this guy on Craigslist and he mentions to me he has an i7 which he is looking to sell so I tell him I'm interested being that was going to be my next upgrade. I have a i5 4440 with a asrock z87m pro4 mobo and he has a i7 2600k and a Gigabyte GA-Z68XP-UD3. Now he's telling me something like the two mobos cancel each other out and his is an older generation but higher end. He also says his i7 is worth $100 more than my i5 and for an extra $15 I can have his memory -16gb (I have 8gb). So for a total of $115 on top of the trade of his i7 and mobo and my i5 with mobo...should I accept the trade?

Solution
I wouldn't. His CPU does sell for about $20 more on ebay, but you are better off sticking with the newer hardware. Your CPU is 2 generations newer and your motherboard has better SATA 3 and USB 3 support.
If you shop around, you should be able to pick up an i5 4670k for $150 or an i7 4770k for $230. Those would both allow you to overclock and maximize the gaming performance of your system.
