You need to do some experimenting on your own to better determine what is going on. Events like this are sometimes a family a matter rather than technological, so ask your father, or whoever serves as network manager for the family, for help in solving it.

The first technological investigation to do the next time this happens is to move the computer that gets booted right next to the router to eliminate wifi interference or low signal strength as a cause. You can also double check that your computer and the phone are set up to gets IPs from the router through DHCP to eliminate an IP conflict as the culprit.

Do you have a netgear?

Heard they are good for kicking people off like that!

You could get a cross over network cable straight into the router.

Or you can go into the router and some of them can have a privilege setting to a certain device.

Seems to be something to do with bandwidth or the router

It can be as simple as his phone has a stronger signal to the router and stomps on your radio signal. If you get too many errors the router will disconnect you. There really is no good fix for this other than not using wireless.

Almost all other type of issue with sharing a internet just cause very slow response times but if you are actually losing the connection then it is interference.

One option is to bring the internet connection closer to you. If you can, run an ethernet cable from the router to your location. The easier but more expensive option is to set up powerline networking using AV2-1200 or 2000 adapters. The local adapter can then be connected to the computer via a cable to an inexpensive router set up as an access point.
