Hi Guys,

as mentioned in my title, at the moment I have 2 routers, 1 ASUS RT-N56U; as the main router, and another Asus RT-N12HP as a secondary router for my room; as I have 2 desktops.

So now, before setting up my second router, I already have the first router; Asus RT-N56U as the main router/modem installed about a week or so, and my ping is usually 5-20; in CS:GO that is. I am from Malaysia, and currently running on a fiber optic speed of 30mbps. All of my downloads streaming etc are fine.

Then I installed my new router, the RT-N12HP, without setting it as a access point or repeater, it worked just fine, so I thought to leave it as it is, as I have internet connection etc. But then I noticed that my ping started to go up pretty high up, now for the past 2weeks and a half, its been 40-60 at constant. Never below 40.

Question: Is it the router setting that is causing this? I forgot to mention that my sister is also having this issue, she is using a LAN directly from the RT-N56U modem.

Or is it my ISP the one I should contact to clarify this issue?

Thanks in advance and cheers guys! :D

Solution
If a lan cable plugged directly into the main router is having issues it is much more likely it is a ISP problem.

Pretty standard troubleshooting. From the lan connected pc run TRACERT to either the game servers or some common address like 8.8.8.8. If you are lucky you will see the problem in the tracert. Otherwise you must open cmd windows and run continuous ping to the first couple hops that you see in the tracert.

The first hop is your router and if you see issue there something is wrong with the router. Hop 2 generally represent the connection between you and the ISP and is the most common place. It generally is some wiring issue inside or outside your house. Most times the ISP will have to fix it. Things past...

When you get this working again you are best to run the second router as a AP just to avoid the double nat issues. More importantly you must make sure you plan the radio channels on your devices so they do not conflict. If your problem was only wireless I would be blaming that but since it has issue on lan then it is not that.
