When i pair it via bluetooth it asks for a passcode? there is no passcode anywhere on the controller or in the box, if i cancel or press enter sometimes it pairs but it's just a bluetooth device and windows acts like there isn't a controller connected

Solution
Bluetooth v4.0 is required. My old Bluetooth v2.0 dongle was not pairing correctly (asking for passcode with light blinking non-stop). I have just bought a 10€ bluetooth v4.0 dongle and it works perfectly. I don't get why Microsoft doesn't mention it in the official product site or in the box. Anyway, one cable less in my living room!

That's because it's not out yet! You can either join the insider program and get the RC, or wait a week or two for 1607 to roll out

Believe it or not, I have found a solution to the problem (At least in my case).
I updated the controller through the Xbox Accessories app on the Windows Store, which changed nothing, and tried a bunch of other software things.
As I was able to connect the controller to my phone though, and I knew I had problems with my Bluetooth dongle before, I decided to get a new dongle and now the problem is fixed :)

I hope I could help!

Well, yeah, reading it now it sounds misplaced indeed. It's not that it *didn't work* before, it actually worked fine. It's just that the latency sometimes got really high when using my DS4 with it and I used to have similar connection issues before.

Generally, it was more of a call that, if you know your bluetooth dongle is a bit older now and you are having this issue with the passcode, you might want to upgrade your dongle instead of looking for software fixes that don't exist.

By the way, I am not the OP of the thread, just someone who had the same issue

I have the same issue. I bought controller today with some cheap dongle and after few hours of searching I think, its because of missing some profile(s) on dongle, probably Human Interface Device Profile (HID). Can someone more experienced confirm this?

Hi YouRik,
Bit of a late reply however I too faced this issue, I tried everything under the sun and also contacted via online a helpdesk for Microsoft who explored my system and told me that my registry was a complete mess of stuff not working and broken and they would repair it for me for $300:00 dollars lol.
My Bluetooth dongle was years old so I went and bought the official Xbox wireless adapter £20:00, what a nightmare that was, it connected fine but kept dropping out and disconnecting, hours spent with Xbox one online support and they had no clue, really nice people but there really is no resolve for the fact that the product is rubbish.
Finally I went and bought a brand new £10.00 Bluetooth dongle and although you have to reconnect and re-sync it each time you wanna play it works a charm.
I might add my controller is a new one with built in Bluetooth and I am on the latest version of windows 10 build 1703.
Oh and my registry is fine by the way as I recently did a complete reinstall of windows and ran a few registry cleaners lol $300:00 my butt.

hope this helped
Tommy
