HP 7640 printer won't stay connected to the net. How does one fix this problem. Tried new software, re-adding printer, resetting internet router.

Solution
See if other wireless devices have problems where the printer is located. Not an absolute test per se but see if there are any notable drops in signal strength compared to other near by devices.

Can you get closer to the router? Relocate the printer some just for testing purposes? Raise either one up a bit higher?

Even a small shift of a few inches can make a difference.

Move the router's antennas around. Even horizontally: check the manual for details.

When you say it won't stay connected to the net do you mean it is showing as offline in devices and printers or it is disappearing completely and having to be re-added? It will show as offline when it goes into sleep mode and all you have to do is tap the start button to wake it up(or print something) and then it will show as connected again. I'd make sure it's shared as well.

Do you know if the printer has a static IP address assigned?

Instead of requesting a new IP address from the router each time the printer is turned on, it has a permanent (statci) IP address within your network.

The printer's User Guide/Manual should explain how to do that but you also need to corrodinate with the router's settings. For example, you must set the printer's static IP outside of the address range of assignable (DHCP) addresses available for the router to use.

What router are you using? You may be able to improve the connectivity via the wireless settings as well.
