Will my PSU cable work for the CPU socket on my motherboard?

Hello,

I am putting together a PC for the first time. So far so good, but I found out that the power cable from PSU to CPU (which came along with my Seasonic M12 EVO bronze edition 620W) is not completely the same as the CPU socket on my ASUS Maximus VIII Hero. It does fit, but the cable is split in two parts with one having 4 round pins and the other having diagonal 2 round and 2 square pins, but judging by the way the socket on my motherboard looks I am supposed to use an 8 pin cable with diagonally located 4 square pins and 4 round pins. I would like to know can I use this cable or should I get a new one?
Thanks!

So you have the old round peg in a square hole problem?

I had this issue with an EVGA 850 B2 PSU and an MSI Gaming R9 390 before where I had an extra round pin and the hole for it was square. I had no issue with it.

From what I understand this is what PSU manufacturers do sometimes. If you want to be sure, check the polarity of the wires before you plug them in and make sure the top wires are yellow and bottom are black, as that would match the ATX 12v pinout.

Yea that's exactly what it is. If it works for you then I hope it will work for me too. My wires are all black tho , so I can't check the polarity just by looking at the colors
