parts for this thread:
motherboard: fm2a68m-hd+
cpu: athlon 860k
gpu: gtx 960 geforce edition

so i have been playing games recently such as gta 5, i can play on decent settings at 30fps but find it hard for 60fps because of the cpu bottlenecking my gtx 960. with my cpu i overclocked it at 4ghz which i think will be safe and wont break my mobo any time soon as i have a very good cpu cooler. however i want to OC my cpu to 4.2 ghz and im worried my mobo will break, i have 2 fans slots that will point directly to my cpu/mobo, will this help cool down my mobo if i OC it? and will those 2 extra fans being added prevent my mobo to break over to OC?

Solution
If you are hoping for 60 fps average at 1080p no amount of overclocking can get you there with that setup. As for pushing your board too far, you likely will run into stability issues before you do any damage, but you are severely limited with that board. Theres no heatsinks on the VRMs so even with a lot of cooling they won't dissipate heat very well. That board really is not made to overclock at all.

yea ik its a pretty cheap mobo as i was on a budget at the time before my gpu upgrade, it only has 1 heat sink so would u think putting it at 4 ghz is good enough if i add the extra cooling and dont OC? (btw i dont have a 1080p monitor, its 1680x1050)

I still think 60fps may be a stretch. That heatsink is on the system bus which most boards have had for a while. It has no cooling heatsinks on the VRMs which is what matters for overclocking. If its stable its safe, if not you will need to back it off. If 4 ghz works ok I don't imagine you can get much further than that no matter the cooling.

btw would u think adding those extra 2 fans help it a bit? as i have 2 spare fans anyway, i really want to know even if they help my cpu/mobo a tiny tiny bit as im gonna install them anyway even if they dont help.
