On startup motherboard goes through a bunch of screens, shows it detects my hard drive (there is only 1), and then eventually says disk boot failure, insert system disk and press enter.

A few things
1. Brand new hard drive, installed OS on a different computer it works fine
2. Sketchy motherboard I bought from a PC recycle place, the computer worked for a while and then windows broke so I reinstalled using a different computer(gigabyte boards have issues booting from usb) I brought the HDD back and now it wont boot.
3. Not quite sure if this computer is designed for ahci (it has ahci options but it's kind of sketchy)
4. Cables are good since I used them on a different computer

Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3R
core 2 quad q8200
2gb nanya RAM
brand new ST1000DM003 1000gb hdd
thermaltake tr2600w (its a random psu-wayyy too much power)
asus GTX 550ti

I'm pretty sure windows is trying to read from the wrong partition but I don't know how to fix it.
If you know any BIOS settings I should change please tell

All help appreciated

Solution
Alright so I used the install media to rebuild my MBR and I think that has fixed my OS. I screwed it up and when I installed windows using a different computer the MBR got left behind. I have another thread on the stupid gigabyte boards which wont boot from USB here:
http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/id-3143945/invalid-partition-table-usb.html

if someone else comes along with the same problem:
1. get into windows repair
2. go to cmd
3. http://www.sevenforums.com/general-discussion/17521-how-fix-mbr-through-command-prompt.html
4. do that ^
5. restart and enjoy

Thanks for all your help

Yes, I have boot priority set to 1.hdd 2.hdd 3.disabled

There is only 1 hdd installed, no floppy drive, no cdrom

Hi there BTDarkness,

You've mentioned that OS was installed on another machine. You are not trying too boot from a drive that has OS installed on another computer right?

If this is the case, then you will need to perform clean installation when the drive is attached to your computer.

Cheers,

I plugged in my windows boot media and now it says that there is an invalid partition table. I tried re-creating the install---no help. I tested and the install media works on a different computer. Would the USB's file size being greater than 4gb be preventing the old MB from reading it correctly?

Well, you can repartition and reformat the drive before the installation process.

Once you are in Windows setup:
- shift+F10 to bring up the command line.
- diskpart [enter]
- list disk [enter]
- select drive [number] [enter]
- clean all [enter]
- create partition primary [enter]
- select partition 1 [enter]
- active [enter]
- format fs=ntfs [enter]
- assign [enter]
- exit [enter]
- exit [enter]

I don't think it is related to the size of the USB.

Hope this will help,
D_Know_WD :)
