Hi, I recently built a new computer and reused the mechanical drive from an older computer. The motherboard on the new computer is a Asus z170 pro gaming,

The ssd on the new computer is getting around 500 read and write on crystaldiskmark, but the hdd is only getting around 40-50 read and 60-80 write. After seeing those numbers I ran the benchmark on my old computer and the same hdd was getting around 100-150 read and write.

I updated the Intel sata and chipset drivers. I tried every sata port and 3 different cables but I'm getting the same results. What could be causing this? Thanks.

Hi, thanks for the reply. I ran smart tests on crystaldiskinfo and hdtune. Both tested good with no bad sectors.

I also found the cause of the problem. The MSI gaming app from my gpu was somehow causing the hard drive to run slow. Now I'm getting benchmarks around 150 with the program uninstalled.
Hey there, @polarexpress1!

I'd strongly recommend you test your hard drive using its brand-specific diagnostic utility from the manufacturer's official website or a third-party tool alternative. They will help you determine the health and SMART status of your HDD. You should also check how the hard drive would perform from another computer, if you have access to one. Either way, make sure you backup all your important files from the drive before proceeding with the troubleshooting! Better safe than sorry, right?!

Keep me posted with the SMART results. Good luck!
