Hey all!
So with all the advancements in graphics cards and gaming in the recent year I am finally ready to upgrade my computer. I am looking to be able to play VR comfortably and maybe, money allowed, upgrade my computer screen? Not sure to what, 1440 maybe? Any suggestions for monitors are also welcome!
SO any suggestions as to which parts to upgrade (I'm very interested in the 1080 and upgrading my ram to 16gb) and then maybe a link or explanation on how to upgrade? This will be my first time messing with the internals since I built it in '13 so I know less than Jon Snow when it comes to upgrading.
Currently lets just go with a budget of $1,000, but that number can be increased if you think a few extra dollars would allow for vastly better performance.

this is my current layout;

CPU: Intel Core i5-4670K 3.4GHz Quad-Core Processor

CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler

Motherboard: Asus Z87-Pro ATX LGA1150 Motherboard

Memory: Corsair Vengeance LP 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1866 Memory

Storage: Samsung 840 EVO 120GB 2.5" Solid State Drive

Storage: Seagate Barracuda 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive

Video Card: Asus GeForce GTX 770 2GB DirectCU II Video Card

Case: Fractal Design Define XL R2 (Black Pearl) ATX Full Tower Case

Power Supply: Corsair Professional 650W 80+ Gold Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply

Optical Drive: LG GH24NS95 DVD/CD Writer

Operating System: Microsoft Windows 8 OEM 64-bit

Any suggestions are welcome!
Thank you in advance.

As you are buying new, no need to buy older processor like i5 4670K. Get something like i5 6500 or i5 6600k. Get latest platform as you are buying new.
Add an SSD to your system. Will help your system greatly - https://www.amazon.com/MyDigitalSSD-240GB-256GB-Solid-State/dp/B01974UGNA?ie=UTF8&tag=bom-tomshardware-20 . If the budget is too much for you, ditch the SSD.

Buy windows from here - http://cheapdigitaldownload.com/windows-10-professional-digital-download-price-comparison/ for $23

While this looks like a great setup, what would your advice be regarding upgrading my current parts while avoiding bottlenecking?

What do you think are the chances that not upgrading my cpu will result in a bottleneck...?

No bottle neck and the cooler you have now should get you to the 4.3 area.

Alright sweet. What are the chances my CPU doesn't overclock well? I tried OC it the other year, and i feel like I remember feeling like it wasn't overclocking well.. This could also be my lack of experience or confidence in the area..
Also regarding buying 8gb more of the same ram, do you think the difference in power would be noticeable if i upgrade my RAM and went with 16gb of better ram vs 16gb of my current ram?

Perfect, thank you! Any advice/links regarding OC that you approve of? If not I'm sure i can find plenty of guides on the web.

Edit: question was answered while typing this! Thank you immensely!
